POOL CLOSURES

SCHEDULED CLOSURES - The pool is closed periodically for swim meets and other events. Signs will be posted at the pool prior to any closures.

WEATHER CLOSURES - ANY lightning or thunder observed will close the pool for 30 minutes. Any additional lightning or thunder restarts the clock. Feel free to call the pool for updates. Heavy rain or fog will also cause us to close if the lifeguards are unable to see the bottom of the pool. We will do our best to update our Facebook page and pool voicemail to keep everyone informed.

SMOKE CLOSURES - While we do not have a hard and fast policy, generally an AQI over 200 will cause us to close. It is a judgment call. Feel free to call the pool for updates. We will do our best to update our Facebook page and pool voicemail to keep everyone informed.

SWIM LESSONS

The Wagner pool is thrilled to teach the kids of the area the fundamentals of swimming. We have reconfigured the lesson groups this year and at the start of each session kids will be evaluated and placed into the appropriate level. The only exception is the Parent & Tot class which is based almost solely on age.

SIGNING UP - All signups are done in-person and payment must be made at the time of sign-up. We will have office hours starting Monday, June 3rd-June 14th, 3:00-6:00 pm Monday-Friday. After that, you can come by during any open hours to sign up. To help with your planning, we will ask you to use our Swim Lesson Level Guide to make your best guess as to the appropriate level for your child. As noted above, each swimmer will be evaluated on their first day of lessons to place them in the appropriate level.

Lessons are first come, first serve and enrollment is not complete without full payment. We do require a minimum of three kids per class in order to run the class. We will do our best to combine, juggle classes and rosters so everyone can participate.

SCHEDULE - Lessons are Monday-Friday for two weeks, except for the final session which is one-week class. Each class is 30 minutes and classes are at 11:00 am and 11:30 am. If classes fill up, and there are at least three participants on the waitlist, we will offer another class(es) at noon.

Session 1: June 17-28
Session 2: July 1-12 (no July 4)
Session 3: July 15-25
Session 4: July 28-August 9
Session 5: August 12-16 (1-week tentative session)

11:00-11:30 Classes: Levels 1-5
11:30-12:00 Classes: Levels 1-4 and Level 6

LESSON LEVELS (Swim Lesson Level Guide)

Parent and Tot (Level 1) - Kids from zero to 4. Parents can be fully engaged or just hanging on the pool edge if their little one is capable of being somewhat independent in the wading area.
Starfish (Level 2) - Kids 4 and older who are new (or nearly new) to lessons. Parents can be close by but with minimal involvement. Kids will be learning the front and back floats, to flutter kick and will be generally gaining independence and learning to be safe around the pool.
Ducks (Level 3) - Getting comfortable away from the shallow end wall. Mastering floating on front and back, learning to swim the width of the pool (not necessarily with style!), flutter kicking on their front and back.
Salmon (Level 4) - Learning more formal strokes (freestyle and backstroke), beginning to dive, mastering the ability to make it across the width of the pool and learning how to tread water effectively.
Otters (Level 5) - Using correct freestyle and backstroke the width of the pool, learning to dive from standing, and learning the beginnings of breaststroke and butterfly.
Orcas (Level 6) - Mastering the rhythm and breathing of freestyle, developing a strong dive with kick, gaining confidence in breaststroke and butterfly.
Stroke - For strong swimmers who can't do swim team but want to develop proper stroke mechanics in all four strokes. Can also include starts and turns. We have very few kids at this level so they are not regularly scheduled. If you are interested in this level, please email poolmanager@townoftwisp.com with the age and swim background of your child and what session(s) you would like to participate in. We will try to find others of a similar level to put together classes.

FEES - Each 2-week session is $48.82. Payment can be made by credit card (preferred), check or cash.

HISTORY

The Pool was originally built in 1966 after a tragic accident took the life of a young boy. Ernst and Kathrine Wagner had a vision with the hope that everyone would learn to swim in a safer environment and therefore, funded the construction of the Ernst O. Wagner Memorial Pool. The pool continues to operate due to a fund the Wagners' set up and through various donors like the FRIENDS OF THE POOL.

SUPPORT

The FRIENDS OF THE POOL are a huge part in keeping our pool afloat. Without their unwavering support and dedication, the pool would not be operational today. You can play a part in keeping our pool going by sending a donation to the Friends of the Pool, PO Box 438, Twisp, WA 98856 or online at their website.
